Andrew Jackson Leslie, son of William C. Leslie, ws born in Carroll County, Tennessee on Dec. 12, 1824. He came to Missouri with his parents in 1835 and frew to manhood on a farm near the Rock House ford on the Moreau. He was from a family of 12 children. the first time he was married was 1840 to Sarah Stark. His second wife, Elizabeth Jane Stark, he married in 1850; she died in 1899. they had been blessed with 11 children, two of which died at an early age.
Andrew J. Leslie enlisted in the Union Army on August 1, 1862 at Jefferson City, Missouri, as a private. On November 20, 1862, he was honorably discharged.
He and his wife were members of the Baptist Church for 60 years. They owned a 320 acre farm.
Andrew J. Leslie died at his farm in Russellville, Cole County, Missouri on July 28, 1907 at the age of 82. To his friends and neighbors, he was known as "Uncle Andy". For more than a quarter of a century, he was called to advised in cases of sickness in the neighborhood, and while not a physician himself, many persons gave him credit for saving their lives.
He was one of the pioneer citizens of Cole County. He is buried in the family lot in the Enloe Cemetery.
