Corp. Frederick M. Shrum
MO State Militia Cav, Co. A, 3rd Regiment
According to the Company Descriptive Book, Corporal Shrum was a farmer born in Stoddard County, Missouri ca. 1830. He is described as being 5'8" tall with dark eyes, dark hair, and of a dark complexion. Corporal Shrum died in 1923.
Corporal Shrum enlisted on February 28, 1862 in Fredericktown into the 3rd Regiment of the State Militia Cavalry, Company A. He was discharged on May 13, 1865 due to the ending of the War.
The 3rd Regiment was reorganized from the 10th Regiment State Militia Cavalry on February 2, 1863. The 10th being organized at Louisiana, Missorui on May 5, 1862. The 3rd being attached to the District of St. Louis, Missouri and then moved from Pilot Know to Patterson, Missouri. It did scouting from Pilot Knob to the Arkansas line during which time the regiment was involved in several skirmishes and operating against guerrillas from January to July, 1865. The 3rd Regiment was mustered out on July 13, 1865.
