Anson M. Petteys (1826-1905)

93rd New York Infantry

 

My great-great grandfather, Anson M. Petteys was born in Easton, Washington County, New York, 12 April 1826.  At age 21, he served in the Mexican War, Company A, 10th Regiment, U.S. Infantry. He was described as having grey eyes, brown hair, light complexion, and was 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was a wagon maker.  

     He married Mary Palmer in 1849, and they had 8 children.
     At age 35, he served in the Civil War, in the New York 93rd Infantry, Company A.  He was a private.  He was discharged due to injuries he received while doing nighttime guard duty.  He slipped and fell on the frozen ground.
     Anson's brother, John Petteys, was killed at the second Battle of Deep Bottom, Virginia, 17 Aug. 1864.  He is buried in Richmond, Virginia.
     Anson died 4 June 1905.  He is buried in the Greenwich Cemetery, Washington County, New York.  He is buried with his wife, Mary.
